Fixing the Hulk movies

2020.07.17 20:55 jameshoward_official Fixing the Hulk movies

Let's start with 2003's Hulk.
First things first, hire a new director. Hire a director who knows how to make an awesome action movie, not some artsy director like Ang Lee.
No comic book transitions.
The opening scene with Bruce's backstory can stay in the film. It actually makes sense on why he became the Hulk later on. But Bruce's father won't be the main villain of the movie.
Bruce and Betty work at a US Department of Defense nuclear research facility in New Mexico. General Ross introduces Bruce to Igor Drenkov) (under the alias "Igor Starsky") and Emil Blonsky), who are secretly spies. We'll come back to this later on.
Bruce designs and oversees the construction of the gamma reactor, which is intended to generate electricity using gamma radiation. When the reactor is being tested, Blonsky secretly sabotages the device, causing an explosion to rock the reactor. When this happens, a teenager named Rick Jones, who was riding his motorcycle nearby, falls into the test site. Bruce runs out of the bunker to escort Rick to safety. Before Bruce can get himself to safety, the reactor explodes, and Bruce is irradiated with highly charged radioactive particles.
Bruce and Rick are recovered from the military. When night falls, Rick turns on a "radio" (actually a Geiger counter). Its clicking increases and Bruce changes into the Hulk for the first time. Rick, feeling indebted to Bruce for saving his life goes after the Hulk.
The next morning, Bruce is woken up in the desert by Rick where he apparently fainted. They return to the base, and Ross confronts Bruce, demanding to know about his disappearance.
The next time Bruce turns into the Hulk is when he catches Drenkov in his lab trying to steal his gamma plans, revealing him as a spy. When the Hulk reverts back to Bruce, the military arrives and takes Bruce and Drenkov into custody. Unknown to Bruce, Blonsky is hiding in the laboratory where he has been photographing Bruce's gamma radiation equipment. Blonsky stands in front of the machine and activates it. It bombards him with a more concentrated and intense dosage of gamma radiation than Bruce himself had received from the explosion, turning him into the Abomination.
Realizing that the Hulk is the only one who can stop Blonsky, Bruce convinces Ross to release him and transform into the Hulk. After a battle throughout the desert, the Hulk defeats Blonsky and flees the desert.
We can keep that ending scene with Bruce in the jungle.
Have a post-credits scene where Drenkov, now in prison, sends a letter to Samuel Sterns, informing him that their mission has failed.

If 2003's Hulk was a success, we would've gotten a sequel in 2006. My idea for the sequel is a lot like 2008's The Incredible Hulk, but with some big changes. Here's how I'd put it:
The opening scene of the sequel reveals Samuel Sterns' backstory and how he became the Leader. A few months prior to the events of the first film, Sterns worked as a janitor at a chemical plant. One evening, while moving canisters of waste material, one of the containers cracks open bathing him in gamma radiation. Sterns survives, but his gamma-irradiated body eventually starts to mutate. However, his intellect increases by a milestone. It is revealed that Sterns sent a spy ring (Emil Blonsky and Igor Drenkov) to learn the secrets of the gamma reactor that was designed by Bruce.
The next scene is set three years after the first film. Bruce hides in Brazil searching for a cure while working at a soda factory. After Bruce's blood drops into a soda bottle, General Ross sends a special forces team, aided by Sterns, to capture him. Banner transforms into the Hulk and defeats Sterns’ team.
Bruce visits his cousin, Jennifer Walters, in Los Angeles and tells her about the Hulk. Jennifer agrees to help Bruce, but later that night, she gets shot by a man whose partner she had been prosecuting. Realizing Jennifer is going to die, Bruce gives her a transfusion of his own blood. After she stabilizes, Bruce has her admitted to a local hospital. The police question Bruce and ask who he is. Bruce says that he is a friend of Jennifer, but the police say that what he is is a suspect. The police leave to go talk to the district attorney. When they return, Bruce is gone. This comes to the attention of Ross, who sends his forces to Los Angeles, chasing Bruce into a subway station and causing him to again transform into the Hulk. The ensuing battle proves futile for Ross' forces and they retreat.
Meanwhile, the man who shot Jennifer attempts a second hit on her, causing the danger to activate gamma radiation particles in the transfused blood, turning her into the She-Hulk and escaping the hospital.
After the Hulk reverts to Bruce, he contacts Betty, who urges him to meet up with her and Rick Jones. Bruce contacts Jennifer who tells him about her metamorphosis. Bruce tells Jennifer that they have to stay separated. However, this call is traced and Ross' forces capture Bruce and take him into custody with Betty and Rick. They are taken to the desert base, where Sterns is caught by Glenn Talbot stealing missiles. Sterns knocks out Tabolt and launches a missile, nearly striking Ross' helicopter. It turns out that Sterns' real plan was to take over the base.
Bruce gets permission from Ross to fight Sterns and jumps from the helicopter, transforming after hitting the ground. Jennifer arrives unexpectedly and joins forces with the Hulk. The two defeat Sterns and Jennifer decides that she is going to retain her She-Hulk form permanently. The Hulk flees from the base once again.
We have that same ending from The Incredible Hulk with Bruce in British Columbia.
If possible, this movie (and maybe even the first movie), could've been linked to the MCU. We can have that scene with Tony Stark telling General Ross about a team being put together.
As a follow up to this sequel, a TV series about She-Hulk could've been made (which Marvel is working on at the moment). The show would've been about Jennifer trying to balance her life as She-Hulk with that of a highly skilled lawyer.
Anyway, that's how I would fix the Hulk movie franchise. What are your thoughts? Feel free to leave suggestions down below.

2020.03.08 11:19 cbekel3618 If the Avengers and the Villains switched roles (Inspired by u/lucybai7 )

u/lucybai7 made an interesting post suggesting the idea of the Avengers and their enemies switching roles, with good guys becoming bad guys and so forth. This is a great What-If idea that's been in a few comics before (Axis storyline coming to mind) so I made this post regarding my thoughts.
Will you agree with all of these ideas? Probably not. Is it weird? Probably yes. But here we go anyways. Hope you enjoy.

2019.06.09 14:15 whiplash10 Introducing the Masters of Evil

This was an old pitch I made before or shortly after Infinity War.

It would begin with Tony rebuilding the Hulk Buster Armor prior or during the beginning of Infinity War. However a call was made from General Ross that an attack is occurring in Manhattan. Tony called in Vision since Rhodey is still recovering. The two arrived and fight a supervillain. However as the battle continues, Tony begun to disobey Ross's commands until help arrived in the form of War Machine and Spider-Man. They defeated their opponent but the military arrives with an angry general.
Spider-Man went home while the three Avengers have an argument with Ross about their actions in Manhattan. Ross complains to them they have become even more reckless than they were operating on their own. Tony argues that ever since learning that Ross has sent Emil Blonsky/ the Abomination to Latveria, Tony has been busy preparing contigencies in case Abomination ever returns and is now skeptical about the government. Rhodey hearing about Latveria asks Ross why did he made that decision since Latveria is separated from the UN and their recent actions that Rhodey had seen were devastating which led to many losses of his men. Ross justifies his actions that Latveria has made significant advancements and one of which could help restore Abomination to his normal self. The deal was that if Latveria were to study Abomination, Latveria would join the UN which meant peace. Tony and Rhodey merely shook their heads in dismay.
Meanwhile, Justin Hammer awaits in his cell, hoping his parole would come through until he heard the alarms and sees gunfire everywhere. Mysterious men/ Ten Rings were gunning down both guards and prisoners. Justin gulped at his fate until a sling ring appears below him and he was dropped in before the Ten Rings went to his cell.
Justin got up and sees Baron Mordo offering his hand. Mordo and Hammer introduced each other. Hammer inquires where are they which Baron replies they were in the home of Hammer's new business partner. Baron escorts Hammer to the throne room where the Latveria King resides. Hammer jumped back as he saw Abomination, recognizing him from the videos and even accidentally insulting which Abomination took offense. Before Abomination could harm Justin or Mordo, a pain surges through Abomination. It belonged to the remote that the Latveria King had so that he could control the Gamma mutant. Baron presents Justin to King Victor von Doom of Latveria. Justin felt honored but asks the king why did he free a criminal. King Doom answers that Justin is a necessary evil along with Mordo, Abomination and other potential candidates. The world has been suffering from the battle between Gods and this group will be made to ensure the planet will be safe.

2019.05.18 15:58 bbukrpdr 🐍♟ Reddit Dragula - S4E8: “Serpents of Society” ♟🐍

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL MOTEL WEEK 1
The neon light fixture cast a pink, seedy glow throughout the dirty room. Saggy wallpaper peeled away from the walls in places, exposing the wooden slats underneath. The ashtray on the coffee table was overflowing with cigarette butts, each of the filters stained with lipstick.
"Jesus, what's taking them so long?" Smacahoe asked, the sharp heels of her hooker boots shredding the shag carpet as she paced back and forth across the motel room.
Euth shrugged, neither interested or invested in the current events. There were a million other things she'd rather be doing than attending the emergency winners meeting that Smac had called, but since the bitch had brought her back to life, she guessed she could stop by.
Smac took another long drag of her cigarette, swatting away at flies with her free hand.
"And you better have put a towel down on that chair first-" Smac hissed, "-I'm not losing my deposit because of you."
Euth rolled her eyes. She lay draped across the armchair, tapping away at her iPhone. The smell of her rotting flesh had only gotten worse since her resurrection, so she wore a dozen tree-shaped air fresheners around her cadaver-like neck.
In all honesty, Smac wasn't in much better shape. Whenever she looked down whatever was left of her brains would ooze out of the bullet wound in her forehead. She'd solved the issue temporarily by shoving a tampon into the hole.
There was a knock at the door.
"Ugh, finally-" Smac exclaimed, dropping her cigarette into Euth's drink, "-it's about time those irrelevant whores showed up."
Smac pulled the door open, revealing the co-winners of season three: Angie Apathy and Erathelle. The stench of death and decay from the motel room hit the two like a tonne of bricks.
"Christ-" Erathelle spat, pinching her nose, "-it smells like Cathe in here."
"We were honestly surprised to get your invitation-" Angie said, "-we'd heard that you died."
"Not that being a corpse made a difference to your drag career-" Era added, "-or lack thereof."
Angie's eyes darted around the room, looking for a place to sit. She took one glance at the crusty bed sheets and decided she'd rather stand.
"Anyway…" Angie said, "... you said there was an emergency?"
ONE HOUR LATER
"So basically, to summarize everything you've told us-" Angie started, "-every Dragula contestant - winner or otherwise - was murdered once they left the show?"
Smac nodded, lighting yet another cigarette.
"And Fanta's murderous alter ego shot you in the face during the Wasteland Weekend challenge in our season?" Era said.
"And then she disposed of my body by packing it into a trunk and donating it to GoodWill-" Smac confirmed, "-which I'm still pressed about because I never got the trunk back."
"I bet it wasn't even real Louis Vuitton." Euth said in an attempt to be shady, but the others ignored her.
"Anyway-" Smac said, "-after I died I went straight to hell-"
"Obviously." Era added.
"And that must have been when Fanta's subconscious could no longer fully conceal the memories of the killings-" Angie explains, "-and she began to develop a sleeping disorder."
"Didn't she come to you for a diagnosis?" Era asked.
"She did-" Angie replies, "-she was having night terrors. I suggested that they were a manifestation of guilt."
"So Fanta ended up at the Dragula exhibit Alex's Di$count Dragworld-" Smac continued, "-which is where all the bodies ended up."
"Except for mine." Euth corrected her.
"And she took your body-" Angie said, "-probably because you were her most recent victim, and she was subconsciously drawn to you."
"That's when she contacted me-" Era interjected, "-hoping I could use witchcraft to contact your spirit."
"The dumb bitch not even realizing she was the killer the entire time." Euth said flatly.
"So I organized a meeting between Fanta and Satan-" Era confesses, "-mostly because I couldn't be bothered to host an actual seance."
"Fanta struck a deal with Satan to resurrect me temporarily so I could help judge the new season-" Smac explains, "-which I was NOT thrilled about because the new cast is filled with fats and flops."
The other three winners nod in solemn agreement.
"Anyway, when I told Fanta she was the killer she was in complete denial-" Smac continues, "-even when I brought Euth back from the dead."
Euth waves sarcastically at the others.
"And Fanta's denial stems from her having no awareness of her murderous alter ego-" Angie elaborates, "-except for the small details that overflow into her nightmares."
"But what happens if the violent personality takes over again?" Era asks, "- won't it be pissed off that you've tried to expose her?"
"I'm from Brooklyn, okay-" Smac replies, "-that bitch don't scare me."
The exposition-heavy conversation is interrupted by a knock at the door.
The winners stare at one another tensely, not quite sure of who the new arrival could be. Euth rolls her eyes, climbing to her feet.
"Whatever-" Euth murmurs, "-it's probably just the maid."
"Don't open it!" Angie cries, but it's too late.
A familiar, curvaceous figure struts into the room, coldly staring each of the winners up and down.
"Chill-" Euth replies, "-it's just Fanta."
"Oh no-" Fanta purrs, pulling a ritualistic dagger from behind her back, "-I'm not Fanta…"
"...I'm Anastasia Five."
SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS WEEK 8
The churning sounds of wheels on a train track commence the episode, the establishing shot of a moderately vintage train with three carriages passing through the rugged countryside. The engine coughs a steady trail of smoke into the air, the name ERATHELLE LOCOMOTIVES etched above the austere cowcatcher in an industrial goldleaf font.
The passing environment was reflected on the trains polished exterior: jagged, monotonous hills topped with an abundance of verdant forestry, civilisation in the far distance but wild animals such as horses in closer proximity. Skies are blue, the tranquil scenery allowing for a moment of peace, before the camera switched to the warm interior of the train.
THE BIPOLAR EXPRESS WEEK 8
Beige walls, leather armchairs, marble surfaces illuminated by golden LEDs and bottles of champagne were in view of the lens, showcasing the luxurious-appeal. This train was made for the upper-class and the richest only, or at least one would think, before cutting away to the next carriage...
The bitter wind whistled through the rickety wooden walls, where the cold seeped into the dark and dingy interior. Empty cans, covered in rust and congealed pet food rolled about on the dirty floor. Here and there musty piles of damp hay and newspaper had gathered in the corners, barely visible in the dim candlelight.
Spread across a flattened sheet of newspaper was a collage of Aristo photos, partially congealed beneath the melted wax of a crooked candle. The flame hisses and flickers, teardrops falling from Bella's face as she mourns her former challenge partner. Within one of the stalls, amid a heap of moldy hay was the slumbering, mammoth frame of Portia. Her sleeping form calling out to the other beluga whales at sea, quickly falling further and further away behind her as the train headed east.
The piggish sounds of snorting echoed around the carriage as Tish crawled about on hands and knees, following the stale scent of food. She reached out for a rusted can of tuna, scanning the inside for any stale, forgotten morsels. Striking gold, she lifts it to her gaping maw of her mouth, her greedy tongue slobbering about the inside searching for the precious nutrients. Finally, Bianca sat perched on a crate near the back of the carriage, a look of tempered rage and disgust on her face as she carved a message into the walls - WIN HIGH WIN HIGH WIN ROBBED! NEVER AGAIN! the sawdust gathering at her feet.
Biancas eyes peeled away from her masterpiece as angry footsteps stomped towards the cabin. With a forceful kick, the rickety door was blown off of its hinges, the noise causing Portia to be yanked out of her slumber.
"Shia!" She cried, drool running down her chins.
Fantasia Four held a kleenex to her nose as she entered the contestants carriage, a lousy attempt to block out the stench of poverty. Water trickled in behind her along with shards of porcelain. It's almost like someone had taken a wrecking ball to the bathroom.
Nobody was prepared for her sudden Scottish accent.
"HOW COME SOMEBODY DOESN'T KNOW HOW TE FLUSH THA TOILET AFTER THEY'VE HAD A SHET!?!" Fanta roared.
"It wasn't me!" Bella cried, trying to defend her Aristo shrine.
"WELL IT WAS FUCKIN ONE O YEHS!" Fanta screeched "DISGUSTEN!"
Fanta stormed back into the flooded luxury cabin, making splashes with each angry stomp.
All of the eyes in the carriage turned their judgemental gaze towards Tish, who blushed as she tried to back away into the corner.
TEN MINUTES EARLIER
The windows rattled in their panes as heavy footsteps echoed throughout the carriage. Floorboards groaned and dust fell down from the ceiling as the physical equivalent of a stampede from Jumanji made its way across the train.
An iPhone attached to a GoPro swished about through the air haphazardly, shattering a fraction of a chandelier.
"Shoutout to all my Tishinators out there!" Tish cried, throwing gang signs with her spare hand, "Thank you for all of your support!"
Her current Instagram Live had been her most successful yet, she'd never had this many people watching her at once before. A moment later, the third viewer signed out.
"I can't believe we're at top 4 isn't that wild?" Tish asked, posing for the camera, "I couldn't have done it without you guys! Do you want some scalding hot tea?"
Claudette - one of the two viewers in the room- started to type something but quickly deleted it.
"Reddit Dragula Exclusive!" Tish wheezed, sucking in as she squeezed through a doorway, "Fanta's taking us on a field trip for the top 4 challenge, isn't that bananas?"
We were inside a gorgeous bathroom now. Polished marble and sparkling porcelain. Vanilla candles. Floral arrangements. Hand towels folded into swans. Tish holds the GoPro up as high as possible so her two viewers can take it all in.
"The contestants aren't allowed up here in the hosts carriage-" Tish whispers, "-but I won't tell if you don't!"
Claudette starts typing again. Deletes it. Leaves the room.
It's just Anita watching now.
"Okay Tishinators are you all ready?" Tish asks, dropping to her knees, "I'm going to try and beat my personal record today…"
Tish pulls her crusty LuluLemons down, aiming towards the expensive Japanese SmartToilet across the room.
"3… 2… 1…"
Tish groans as she launches her record-breaking fecal matter into the air. The screen goes black. We hear something shatter, followed by the frantic flow of toilet water.
WASHINGTON DC THREE DAYS LATER
The everlasting train journey to Washington DC had finally concluded, the finalists and hosts stepping out of the sliding carriage doors and stepping into the fresh air - much to the pleasure of the finalists after having to share a singular cubicle between themselves, and especially Tish. A momentary time lapse occurs which brings the contestants to the destination of this week's challenge after a severity of further travelling.
The finalists stand in a line before a monumental building - The White House, confused as to why they were here, but more so disgusted that they were in proximity to President Trump himself. A establishing shot reveals that half of the building was dilapidated in piles of ash, an abundance of it’s structure collecting at the right side of the property, whilst the left somehow maintained it’s architecture. The camera cuts away back to the shocked expressions amongst their faces, Portia’s mouth agape.
“Pretty annoyed we didn’t get to Hollywood. You know, I was born to act ther-”
“The apocalypse got this place pretty good, they weren’t joking when they had it as the MTM theme. I thought it was just all studio sets.”
Tish interrupts Nikki Blonsky as she observes the catastrophe before her. The focus shifts to the background where the hosts approach in an inquisitive manner, Smacahoe watching her step, worried about her louboutins getting stained by the smog of cheeto dust blowing across the floor.
“Wow. Erathelle really did bomb this place-” she pushes past the lot and grabs onto the fence, the name of Erathelle drawing attention from the finalists, “I hope Angie died from a heart attack before the explosion.”
Fantasia elbows Smac before pulling her over to stand before the contestants, receiving a slap on her hand as she does so. Bella remains confused, and quite scared of the situation; taking on the expression of a William Mckinley High School student during Becky Jackson's famous shootout. Bianca on the other looked like she was sweating piss, her nausea unsure to be a product of genuine illness, or the fact that a Cath look alike security guard just raised his arm and released the stench of his pit.
“If Diana was here, she’d be pitching a tent right now.” Bella pinches her nose to block the smell out.
“Anywho, welcome to this weeks destination for your final challenge of season four. Before we explain the challenge to you, we have some very special guest visitors… inside the building behind us.”
The gates open from behind the hosts and the camera enters, rapidly zooming to the entrance, the canvas of flower coronations become a blur of colour amongst the gardens. A crescendo of tense piano music plays, the handle turning-
[PORTIA]: Ugh, we’re finally getting to meet the people that will pass their crown down to me. Such an honour.
One door opens. A figure can be seen approaching, one more step away from entering the light. Whoever it was was quite small, dressed in a schoolgirl outfit with a tramp stamp on her right thigh, such details becoming visible before their face enters the frame.
“SKSKKSKS, Sonya, you were meant to come lat-”
The tense music stops as the sound byte of a vinyl scratch replaces it; what the fuck is that? Replicating the sound of Diana’s lisp, there was only one queen this could be. Flashback Mary?
“Flashback Mary?”
Bianca begins to retch again as the camera returns back to the finalists, Bella taking a quick step away from her.
“No, I grounded that flushed away looking bitch last week.”
Fantasia reassures the girls that the queen was indeed not present. A loud slam can be heard in the distance, and from the prior look of the disheveled hinges of the opposing door, it was safe to assume that the problem was squashed.
The group begin to walk down to the building as the gates slam shut behind them, a flash of lightning forming a flare on the lens like a horror movie cliche. Whatever they were about to was much worse than expected, the finalists unsure on entering when the sounds of snakes echoes throughout the establishment and out of the doors. The hosts smile as if the noise was expected, gesturing to them follow into the wrecked chaos.
“I cant wait for this one.” Fantasia looks around the surrounding ruins, as if she was expecting a guest visitor.
A silhouette rapidly approaches the contestants…
The creature steps forward, setting her vicious eyes upon the contestants of the top 4.
The eruptions on her skin were placed irregularly. Although her body was exposed for the better or worse, it seemed as if though her skin was a veil - a fortunate one for those who might lay eyes upon her. She had bulbous, purple growths spotting her - as wide as an onion and likely just as stinky as one - that were only slightly opened to allow the leaking of an orange, milk-like liquid that dripped down to her toes. Her skin was a blank canvas upon which the horrifying painting was placed - white, bleak, but covered in scales. Hextagonal-like protrusions delimited her skin and allowed the milk of her body to flow down much more coursively, gathering in drops at the outer edges of her skin. She only had three fingers and three toes - that were thick, long, and rendered immobile, likely only effective for a run on all fours. The tailbone had a thick protusion which coiled around her that was decorated with metal spikes that bursted out of the tip - almost as if it was a flail, yet no one could know if this was engineered by her servants to give her a more fearsome appearance, or if this was a true weapon of her own body. Her face, distorted and serpentine, was an unforgettable sight. With eyes elongated in a triangular manner and a clear lack of lips, Erathelle mimicked the devil-like appearance of an albino serpent. There were scales attached around her eyes in a greater bush that extended from her nose to her hairline, almost as if they were eyelashes. Her hair, however, was another component of this predator organism. A large, green caterpillar started at the very edge of her scalp, sucking upon her brain as it pleased, and extending down to the ground, trailing behind her like a queen's cape. The caterpillar oozed with the orange milk, being a fountain of it as the liquid escaped through all sides that it could - both rear and mouth. Erathelle licks the milk off of her face, watching the contestants with a great curiosity. "Hmm, delicious. Tastes like talent", she says, grinning from her ear-to-ear, "it seems we're in for a feast, tonight, Angie." Another silhouette appears around the corner as she slithers forward towards the four, her eyes going from left-to-right in rapid manners as she analyzes them. "If this humble supermonster could spare one word of advice...", she says on a coy tone, "it would be to put your makeup on and go get ready sweeties cause according to Smacahoe you're the weakest links."
The camera zooms closer in onto the presence of the other figure.
The hand polished obsidian of the hallway is illuminated by tastefully recessed fixtures at the beginning and end of the passage, the bright pools of light showing that no expense was spared regarding the carefully carved decorative elements, and exotic building materials that developing world children most likely died to procure. The stretch of inky darkness in between perfect for the sharing of secrets and the making of plans, the unseen determining the seen.
Italian made heels mar the floor’s burnished gleam and the silence. Angie hits her mark at the first pool of light, casually giving herself optimal posing space and making the assembled parties wait for it. Her crown balanced on her head at an insouciant angle, her hair an impeccable angled curly bob of vivid red violet, styled for volume, each tendril impeccably defined to fall in an asymmetrical cloud just below the cheekbone.
A vivid smoky halo of cobalt blue shadow decorates her lids, thick mascara swooping up in a matching shade, sharp slashes of apple red blush announcing Angie’s cheekbones into the room before she has fully entered it. Her lips are a matching red, slick and shiny as freshly spilled blood.
Her sharply tailored suit jacket has extreme and exaggerated power shoulders, padded to a near perfect “T” shape as the double breasted style slopes down to a whittled wisp of a waist, an expanse of bare alabaster skin visible beneath. The slimmest of cigarette style pants cling to her curves, and allow an excellent view of the gleaming black patent of pointed toe D’Orsay style stilettos beneath. The bright white of the suit has been hand painted all over with black Stephen Sprouse style graffiti, announcing Angie as a supermonster, queen of folders and diamond crowned ghoul, amongst other text. She brandished her sparkling winner’s scepter like a weapon or a walking stick as she poses, hand on hip. She strides forward into the darkness, coming closer to the contestants and judges at the far end of the hall.
In the darkness, everything changes, vibrant glow in the dark colors revealing sunken sockets and bulging eyes surrounded by fluro red patches of exposed muscles, glowing blue planes of exposed and inhuman skull, lips pulled back into an insane rictus, a dark hollow where a nose should have been amongst all of the vivid color.
The lines of her suit’s silhouette vanish in the dark, but the glowing text on the fabric announces itself in horizontal block lettered text, with a sickly yellow glow:
OBEY
CONSUME
REPRODUCE
SUBMIT
With a final stride, she reaches the brightly lit end of the hall, taking her place alongside Era, Smac and Fanta, once again looking perfectly human. With a smile, she offers her advice to the top four:
“Greeting ghouls! It’s been amazing watching you fight your way to the final episodes, so if one of you wants to inherit Erangie’s crown, now’s the time to focus. Look over your floorshows and your notes from the course of the competition, and outdo your biggest competition…..YOURSELF. Every queen in this room is obviously a gore gore girl, but no one can do you better than you. What haven’t you shown us? What tricks do you have up your sleeve? Show us what you love, and we’ll likely love it too.”
[BELLA ESMERALDA]: Holy shit, Angie and Era are here. They’re perfect. We have been blessed.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome your two current reigning super monsters - Angie Apathy and Erathelle.”
The final four commence a round of applause for their entrances, Angie and Era smiling back.
“These two are a prime example of how to be victorious, and so has Smacahoe all season long. With this being the final four, one of you will win in due time, and so they will past the crown down onto you.”
Portia points to herself.
“We hope that their entrances inspired you, because this week, you are all taking on the one challenge that has been planned for almost every season - Serpents of Society. Inspired by the manic theory that political leaders are actually serpents, you will all be creating your own political figure persona, including a floorshow demonstrating their appearance and mannerisms, whilst accompanied by a speech of what they stand for.” Smacahoe explains, turning to Fantasia.
“The second part of the challenge is to create a second floorshow to the theme of serpents, where you will show the serpent form of your political persona. In this floorshow, you must demonstrate the reptilian form of your politician, traits of their personality, mannerisms and their intentions should be recognisable in their reptilian form, whether that be in their appearance and or how they interact with the environment.”
CHALLENGE SUMMARY:
For this weeks challenge we are taking inspiration from the crazy theories that leading politicians in power (and celebrities) are reptilians. This theory became viral in recent years for how crazy it sounds, so there is plenty of information accessible online if you need to look into it.
You will all be creating your own political figure character and a speech which shows what your character strives to achieve for the world, for their country. It is your choice whether you go down a serious or comedic route, but make every decision carefully as it is the final four. Your speech is not a scene, you will be writing an actual speech - as voiced from your character - entailing what they want to fight for and change, also being one of the few opportunities for characterization.
There will be two floorshows this week. The first floorshow will show your politicians appearance and look, you will have an opportunity to show their mannerisms through environment interaction so take advantage of it all. A more specific environment will be out with the episode, but it will be set in the interior of the white house, so make sure to take inspiration from that. This is a great opportunity to get in some character through the look and movement, although it seems quite a simple theme with little to do, the challenge of creating a distinctive character is there.
The more important floorshow, although both should be treated with equal priority, is your reptilian/serpent floorshow. The theory this episode is based on says that many people in power are reptilians, and have two separate forms. In this floorshow, you must demonstrate the reptilian form of your politician, traits of their personality, mannerisms and their intentions should be recognisable in their reptilian form, whether that be in their appearance and or how they move around the environment. It is suggested you consider showing it through both. This floorshow will take place in the ruins of the white house - which has been neglected and abandoned due to the apocalypse in the MTM. The first floorshow will be in the normal state of the white house for narrative purposes.
CHECKLIST:
  • Politician Speech
  • Politician Floorshow
  • Reptilian/Serpent Form Floorshow
DEADLINE: Tuesday 21st May, 9pm CST.

2019.05.16 21:17 MajorTibb The Incredible Hulk (2008) is a good MCU film, right up there with Iron Man 1

TL;DR: Both movies have the same plot points with only minor differences between the main characters. There's no reason that people should hate The Incredible Hulk as much as they do, aside from not liking the character, The Hulk.

I have, to date, watched The Incredible Hulk 65 times. I plan to watch it again tonight. It is one of the best movies in the MCU as far as origins are concerned. The movie follows the exact same story beats as Iron Man, but with a less charismatic protagonist (and that's to be expected, considering the fact that he cannot lead a normal life due to having a monster living inside him).
We start Iron Man with Tony Stark being a selfish billionaire who just wants to party. He gets captured and finds out that his company has been supplying the weapons that terrorists are using, and did use to capture him. He then invents a super suit which he uses to escape.
We start Hulk with Banner already having his power, but not wanting to use it. He hides until he ends up in the hands of his enemies (the military have him backed into a corner, but also some shorter term enemies, in the form of some local thugs) at which point he's forced to use his power to get away.

Stark realizes that he needs to do something to protect the people he cares about, and so he invents a better suit and goes to wipe out some terrorists.

Banner is working with Betty to get rid of the Hulk, when the military show up to capture him again. Betty gets put in danger, and Banner is forced to suit up to protect her. (Okay, he was already suited up when she got put in danger, but it's basically the same thing.)
Stark eventually finds out that his business partner is the one selling his company's tech to terrorists, and is forced to fight him while they have extremely similar powers. Stane is using the Iron Monger suit (which is an upgraded version of the suit that Stark used to escape captivity.)
Banner finds out that his science partner, has been making copies of his blood for experiments. This blood gets mixed with the super soldier serum that Banner created when attempting to create Steve Rogers's serum, inside of Blonsky, which creates a monster that is a bigger version of Hulk.

In the end, both Heroes are successful in defeating the opponent who was a larger and more powerful version of themselves. Banner goes back into hiding, but develops a technique to potentially control Hulk, thus giving him more confidence (which we never see come to fruition because Ed Norton is canned, and the MCU goes a different direction with Hulk.Stark, because of his own hubris, admits to the people that he is Iron Man, and continues to create new versions of the suit.

Edit: It's definitely far better than Thor or Thor the Dark World, and would have outpaced them for box office earnings if it had come out later in the life of the MCU.

MARVEL ABRIDGED: Phase 1 - Free Will
For the 6 original movies we loved.
Prologue - 1945
The World is on fire as the Allied Powers fight Hitler's bases, the most powerful of them helmed by Hydra. Hydra's leader, the Red Skull, plans on bombing every major world city so he may enact quick takeover. But who should get in his way except America's own super-soldier: Captain America. "You are nothing," he tells the tied up Captain and his cohorts. "Why would the doctor give you the power? What makes you so special?" "Me?" smiles Steve. "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." The fortress windows shatter as the Howling Commandos break through and shoot down the Hydra troops. Red Skull runs away, Captain America after him, shield blocking every closing door. Red Skull jumps into his mega-plane; Steve follows in Peggy's car. "Kiss for good luck," she says as they kiss one last time. Steve looks to the Sergeant. "I ain't kissin' ya," the Sergeant replied. As the plane took off the mountain's runway, Steve jumped into the open carrier just in time. He walked around the dark room, reading the bomb's target cities: New York, Paris, London, and many others. He enters the main flight room, facing the clouds of the Atlantic Ocean, then turning at the sound of an energy blast. Red Skull shoots, but Steve defends with his round U.S. flag shield. "You don't give up, do you?!" "Nope!" They fight hand-to-hand, Red Skull beating him aside. "You could have the power of the gods!" echoed Red Skull as he shoots Steve with a handgun. Steve deflects every shot. "I have seen the future, Captain! There are no flags!" "Not my future!" Steve backs up, but the last shot hits the tesseract off it's stand. Red Skull picks it up as it sparks uncontained energy. "What have you done?!" he says. The cube shakes, shocks the entire plane, reveals a vision of space, then sucks Red Skull inside, never to be seen again. Steve calls Peggy, who reached the communication center. "Are you alright?" she glees. "Schmidt's dead, but the plane's still heading for New York." "I'll get Howard to come guide you-" "Not enough time. If I don't put it in the water, a lot of people are gonna die." Silence immerses as Steve looks on the world, thinking it's his last time. Thinking of all the other people who died for the cause - Bucky especially - and how this time he'll never make it out alive. He'll never be with Peggy like they both wanted. "We'll go dancing next Saturday," she muttered. "I still don't know how." "That's alright, I'll teach you. Just be there." "Alright. I will." He drives into the cold Atlantic, unable to answer when he's called upon. There he was, all by himself. Howard later leads expedition and finds the Tesseract in the water. He tells men to keep looking. For generations onward, Steve's story inspired millions. Including S.H.I.E.L.D., a government agency founded by Howard and Peggy to defend the world from the unknown forces of villainy. Made to protect the world and be aware of all extraordinary people.
Chapter 1 - 2012
Under the cover of darkness, S.H.I.E.L.D. attempts to harness the power of the tesseract. Director Nick Fury consults with Agent Barton, A.K.A. Hawkeye, on whether the situation is assured, just as Dr. Erik Selvig gets the harvester working, accidentally unleashing it to open. And out of it comes...Loki, the Norse god of trickery? "Loki, brother of Thor!" said Dr. Selvig. Giving a big villainous speech, Loki deflects all plasma blasts, taps several people with mind control, and destroys the entire fort. Fury and Agt. Hill barely escape in a black van through the underground tunnel, messaging Coulson to assemble the Avengers. After building a clean energy machine into Stark tower, Tony Stark A.K.A. Iron Man takes off his suit and sits down with his longtime love interest, Pepper Potts. "Sir, Agent Coulson is on the line," says the House Butler System, Jarvis. "Cancel his call. I got a date." As the couple sits down, the doorbell rings: it's Agent Coulson. S.H.I.E.L.D. has approached him several times asking for help or to cover up his identity. Coulson overrides the security and enters. "Phil, come in!" said Pepper. "It's urgent," he hands Pepper the document, who trades it with Tony's drink. "Is this about the Avengers?" she asked. "OH WAIT- I know nothing about that." "The Avengers Initiative was scrapped," said Tony as he walked away. "And I thought I didn't even qualify." "I know nothing about that." "Yeah, apparently I'm volatile, self-obsessed, don't play well with others." "That I do know about." Tony inserted the file into his desk computer, and 3D images of each of the Avengers' stories appeared. Captain America, Thor, and Hulk, and in their greatest moments to date. "Looks like you've got homework tonight." Pepper left as Tony studied the files. No more date.
Chapter 2 - The Birth of Iron Man and Hulk
As Tony read the files in detail, he reflected on his own origins. Born and raised by billionaire geniuses, he made a name for himself as a weapon's engineer for father Howard's company: Stark Industries. He graduated college early, travelled the world, met many men and women of interest. Howard's partner, Obadiah Stane, mentored him. Eventually, he realized all that mattered was making money and achieving fame and pleasure. It didn't matter where the biggest weapons came from; only that "he who has the biggest stick should win". In 2008, he gave the U.S. Army the Jericho Missile: a spread-shot capable of blowing entire cities. He did it: he achieved god-status. Only later did his ego hurt him when one of his weapons were used against him by Afghani terrorists, who only kept him alive for ransom. They hid him in a cave and told him to rebuild Jericho with the promise of freedom, which he knew was a lie. Having shrapnel in his heart, a magnetic pacemaker was built to keep it all away. Someone connected to Stark Industries gave those terrorists the weapons. Someone he trusted. How could Tony share power knowing dangerous people were out there able to wield it, or worse, sell it for profit? Could Tony even trust his own mind? Tony shook his head and distracted himself with the first story: Bruce Banner, a scientist like Tony, but with a different experience. Attempting to test gamma radiation resistance, Bruce accidentally walked into an experiment meant to recreate Captain America. But instead of making an American paragon, it created a monster. The radiation was so powerful it mutated Bruce’s DNA into something...archaic and beastly. He transformed into a giant green monster with uncontained rage and dynamic energy. His partner and lover, Betty Ross, was injured in the explosion. General Thaddeus Ross, her father, and leader of the Gamma Project, sent a manhunt on Bruce, who withheld one of two different personalities at each given moment. Bruce escaped to South America and stayed isolated for years, doing yoga. In search of a cure, he messaged Dr. Stern, sending his DNA. Eventually, S.H.I.E.L.D. located him after he couldn’t contain himself from an oncoming gang. He ran back to the U.S., found Betty Ross in New York, then continued searching for Dr. Stern. The military sent vibe-cars, super-tanks, and enhanced soldier Emil Blonsky. The Hulk destroyed everything, and crippled everyone who came near him. Eventually, Betty and Bruce found and Dr. Stern who told them there was no cure for his darkside. On the road south, Bruce admitted he would either need to get rid of the Hulk or die. But Betty countered: “Why not just control him?” Embrace the Hulk. Embrace the animal within. That was her suggestion after all the destruction. Out for revenge, a healed Blonsky found Dr. Stern and killed him for Bruce’s DNA. And he transformed into the yellow skeletal rage-monster people called...Abomination. General Ross captured the Hulk, asking for his help in exchange for freedom. Bruce dropped from the sky, hit the ground, and transformed into rage by his own volition. He wrestled with Blonsky in the streets of Harlem, almost dying in the process. “HULK SMASH!” the people heard him shout as he boxed Blonsky with two halves of a police car. He chained Abomination’s throat, draining the life from his body. “Stop!” shouted Betty. Hulk looked around at all the people afraid. All the police pointing guns. He kicked the unconscious Blonsky to Ross, then wiped Betty’s tear as she approached. “Betty,” he grumbled dumbly. The helicopter light flashed, and Hulk escaped away from the city. After that, the Hulk was spotted in several sights, usually near yoga. His latest location was India. He chased a little girl asking for a doctor; her mother was sick, she said. He entered a house where she escaped through a window. It was a trap. He turned to see a red headed spy smile at him. Agent Natasha, A.K.A. Black Widow. “For a man avoiding stress, this is hell of a place to be hiding in” said Natasha. “Avoiding stress isn’t my secret.” “Then what is? Yoga?” He looked around the house. “You brought me to the edge of the city. Smart. How’d you find me?” “We never lost track. Just...kept our distance.” “Why do you want me? Why now?” they sat down at the table in the middle. “An object has been taken. We could use your expertise.” “Surely it’s not for any other reason. You don’t need the other guy, do you?” “It emits gamma radiation. That’s...all we need you for-” “STOP lying to me!” he ascends. Natasha pulled her gun out. He held his hands up. “Sorry. Just wanted to see what you would do. Now, please put that down so the other guy doesn’t make a mess.” Natasha called off her troops and put her gun away. “Just you and me, huh?” mocked Bruce. Even asking for his help, people still didn’t trust him.
Chapter 3 - Assembly
Finally, Loki’s energy signature emerged: the New York Summer Charity Ball. A crowd of hundreds witnessed him sculpt a man for his eye, which he used for access to a vault. He then paraded himself outside in front of everyone, flashing dopplegangers, scepter in hand. “Kneel.” everyone continued screaming huddled together. “I. Said. KNEEL!” his tapping sparked blue energy. Unbeknownst to Loki, S.H.I.E.L.D. released Captain America to run toward him, watching as he approached. Loki floated among the subservient masses. “Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It’s the unspoken truth of humanity: that you crave subjugation. That bright lure for freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for power...for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.” Steve imagined the Red Skull once more, and ran even faster towards the danger. Never again, he thought. At the sound of this, an old man, a former Holocaust survivor, stood up from the ground. “Not to men like you,” he said. “There are no men like me,” cheered Loki. The man did not budge. “There are always men like you.” Loki pointed his staff, imagining his own father standing before him. “Look to your elder, people. Let him be an example.” He blasted the man, but Captain America blocked the shot with his shield, knocking Loki out. He then walked toward Loki, saying the speech he wrote five hours earlier. “Ya know, last time I was in Germany, and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing.” “The soldier!” slithered Loki. Black Widow’s jet flew above the crowd, sonic blaster pointed. “Loki, stand down” she announced. Loki blasted the ship and the crowd dispersed. He fought hand-to-hand with the Captain, then stopped at the sound of Black Sabbath playing in the air. “Agent Romanoff...missed me?” said Stark over intercom. He blasted Loki into the sidewalk, then aimed every weapon in his iron suit. Loki’s armor disappeared and he placed his hands up. “Good call,” said Tony. “Captain,” he greeted awkwardly. “Stark.” replied Steve.
Howard’s own boy, standing before him, all grown up. He’s just as rich and ten times more stylized, Steve thought. He respected Howard and all his work, but Iron Man’s made Steve question if S.H.I.E.L.D. knew what they were doing. In 2010, the U.S. military, sponsored by Hammer Industries, attempted to install Stark-inspired technology into every branch. Because CEO Justin Hammer used designs controlled by terrorist Ivan Vanko, the machines were released on the populous and lives were at stake. Tony Stark was famous for his ego, and instead of owning the mistake, he only talked about the credit he deserved for stopping the man. But Steve then thought there must still be a good man there, despite the press coverage. Was he wrong? Was the 21st century blinding his vision of the world? Was his old fashion view blinding the way he saw other people, his categories of nobility? They took Loki onboard Natasha’s plane. Toward the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier they flew, but they were suddenly stopped by a flash of thunder. “It must be Thor, the god of lightning,” said Coulson. The lightning flashed. Thor, adorned in metal and cape, appeared, hammer up, taking Loki by the collar. He flew away into the distance. “I’m going after them!” said Tony walking out. “Tony, we need to make a plan before we attack!” said Natasha. “I have a plan: attack.” and into the storm he flew. “I don’t care what you say, God doesn’t dress like that!” said Steve as he jumped without a parachute. Thor took Loki far into the mountains, thinking back to how far Loki had fallen. For millennia, they were the closest brothers, the best of friends. Their father Odin promised they were both destined to be kings. On the night of his coronation, Thor and his friends attacked Jotunheim, and Odin punished him by stripping him of his power and making him human. Reluctantly, Loki wasn’t sure if he made the right choice turning on his brother. But then, he touched the icebox of Jotunheim: only a frost giant could touch it. His father adopted an orphan ice giant in order to further seize control of the nine realms, and so Loki’s reign in Asgard was totally illegitimate. With tears, Loki confronted Odin, who went comatose (Odinsleep). As one last way to prove worth, Loki tricked and killed Giant King Laufey, then attacked Thor on Earth. But Thor returned and destroyed the Rainbow Bridge they both stood on. As Thor held Loki by his staff, Odin watched him dangle above the whirlpool of space. “I could’ve done it, Father!” cried Loki. “I could’ve done it! For you!” Odin whispered “no, Loki”. Hopeless, he let go and fell into the abyss. “Where’s the tesseract?” Thor grumbles one year later. “I miss you, too” laughed Loki. “I’m not in a gaming mood.” “Sure, because you’ll do so much for your precious Earth.” Thor dropped the hammer and grabbed Loki. “We thought you were dead.” “Did you mourn?” “We all did. Even our Father.” “Your Father. It’s all yours now.” Loki walked aside. “We were raised together, we played together, we fought together- do you remember none of that?” “I remember a shadow of that, as I lived in your greatness. I remember you tossing me into an abyss. I WAS and SHOULD be king!” “So you take the world I love for your imagined recompense for your imagined slice? The Earth is under my protection.” Loki laughed. “And you’re doing a marvelous job at that. The humans slaughter each other in drones while you make idle threats. I mean to rule them! And why should I not?” “You think yourself above them...but the throne would suit you ill.” Loki walked away further. “I have grown! I have seen worlds unlike any before! And I know the power of the tesseract.” Thor pointed his hammer. “Who controls the tesseract of the would-be king?” “I am a king!” “Not yet. Now listen well-” Thor was attacked from the side by Iron Man, who pushed him a mile away. “He’s ours, Shakespeare,” said Stark. “Now back off!” A fight ensued between the two - later joined by Captain America - over who could take Loki away, as well as who was most important. They destroyed the forest, called it a draw, then took Loki up to the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, reluctantly unsure how they could all have him. Could they actually work together?
Chapter 4 - Caged
They trapped Loki in a supercage, strong enough to contain even the Hulk, and ready to be dropped thousands of miles into the ground. Natasha, Fury, Bruce, Thor, and Steve watched Loki in the main room, trying to figure his plan out. “He has an army, the Chitauri,” said Thor. “Well-known to Asgard, and every world known. He will lead them to your people through the tesseract.” “An army...from outer space.” Tony walked in. “The raw materials, Agent Barton could get his hands on pretty easily. All he needs is a powersource of high frequency. “When did you become an expert on thermonuclear-astrophysics?” asked Agent Hill. “Last night,” Tony smiled, putting a tracer on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s monitor. He flashbacked to two years ago, when military iron men attacked the populous. Despite being told many lies - the U.S. government said he was too inept for the suits, Ivan Vanko he was a thief, Pepper Potts that he was a lousy CEO, and S.H.I.E.L.D. said he wasn’t ready for the Avengers, he listened for his Father’s voice: “You are my greatest creation.” He believed in himself when everyone else called him crazy and unprepared. He, mostly, “successfully privatized world peace” by keeping his designs from government hands. And now, he was going to make sure he studied up all his enemies...and his allies. “He’s gonna use a nuclear fusion device,” said Bruce. “Finally, someone who speaks english!” gleed Tony. They shook hands. “I’m a big fan of your work on the hadron-collider...also, how you turn into a big, green rage monster.” “...Thanks.” “He’s only here to study gamma radiation!” lied Fury. The scientists left the room to study Loki’s staff in the lab, where Tony poked Bruce with a shock-pen. “Hey, is everything a joke to you?” said Steve. “Only when it’s funny,” replied Tony. “It’s okay, Captain. I wouldn’t have come if I couldn’t resist pointy things.” Steve left, looking for ways to be productive elsewhere. On the other side of the ship, Natasha approached Loki to bargain for Clint Barton. “Tell me why,” he smiled. “I owe him a debt. He saved my life, and I want him back.” “Your world in the balance, and you bargain for one man.” “Regimes fall every day. I tend not to weep over that, I’m Russian. Or I was.” “And what are you now?” “It’s really not that complicated: I’ve got red in my ledger, and I’d like to wipe it out.” “Can you? Can you wipe out that much red? Dreykov’s Daughter? Sao Paulo? The hospital fire?” Natasha quivered. “It’s gushing red, and you think saving a man more nobler than yourself will save you?! You’re basic. You’re a praying child. Pathetic! You lie and kill in the in the service of liars and killers. You pretend to be separate, to have a your own code, something to make up for the horrors. But they ARE a part of you. And they will never. Go. Away. And I will slowly kill Barton before your eyes you MEWLING QUIM!” Natasha turned away. “You’re a monster.” “Oh no...you brought the monster.” And for some reason, she thought Loki would unleash the Hulk with that line. So Nick, Natasha, Steve, Thor, Tony, and Bruce gathered in the lab. Steve revealed the post-Hydra weapons he found in storage. “S.H.I.E.L.D. is using the tesseract to make weapons,” he said. “Sorry, computer was a little slow for me.” “Yeah, what’s up with this?” Tony revealed blueprints for thermonuclear weapons powered by the tesseract. “Banner, you’re dangerous.” said Natasha. “Get out of here.” “I’d like to know why S.H.I.E.L.D. is using the tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction,” said Bruce. “Because of him” Fury pointed to Thor. “Me?” The scepter flared, and the air filled with drunken stupor. “Last year, visitors from another planet had a grudge match that leveled a small town. There we learned that we are not only alone, but hopelessly and hilariously outgunned.” “My people want only peace with your planet.” “But you’re not the only people out there, are you? And you’re not the only threat. The world’s filling up with people who can’t be matched. That can’t be controlled.” “The tesseract was a signal to Loki and all other realms that the Earth was ready for a higher form of war.” “Nuclear deterrent. Cuz that always calms everything right down.” quipped Tony. “Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark.” replied Fury. “Oh, I’m sure if he were still in the business, he’d be neck-deep” grumbled Steve. “Wait, how’s this now about me?” replied Tony. “I’m sorry, isn’t everything?” They continued arguing, and the staff enhanced its focus. “What are we, a team?” asked Bruce. “No, we’re a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We’re a time bomb.” “You need to step away” said Fury. “Why shouldn’t the guy let off a little steam?” said Tony as he put his hand on Steve, who swatted it away. “You know damn well why! Back off!” jeered Steve. “Oh, I’m starting to want you to make me.” “Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?” “Genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.” “I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. I’ve seen the footage: the only thing you really fight for is yourself. You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play. To lay down over a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.” Tony thought back to the cave- how it was his friend Yusef who died for him so he could escape. He thought about Pepper risking her life to kill Obadiah Stane when he tried killing both of them. Fighting the terrorists and Stane was only for himself. But he knew this: by killing Stane and keeping the technology to himself, the world was a safer place. It was safer because he was selfish. But Whiplash and Justin Hammer attacked him and the populous with his own technology, in the short run it was to protect those in danger. In the long run, it was to protect his legacy. “I think I would just cut the wire” said Tony. Steve smiled. “Always a way out. You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.” “A hero? Like you? You’re a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle.” Steve thought back many years ago: he was a shrimp of a man, with no hope for surviving past sixty. One scientist saw his desire to fight bullies and gave him the super-soldier serum. But did he really make the difference? Did he do anything special that no one else would have done? “Put on the suit. Let’s go a few rounds” jeered Steve. Thor laughed racistly. “You people are so petty. And tiny.” “Agent Romanoff, escort Dr. Banner out of here” said Fury. “How? You rented out my room.” said Bruce. “What? You wanna kill me? You can’t, I know, I’ve tried!” Silence filled the room. “...I got low, and I couldn’t see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out. So I focused on doing good, helping other people, until you all dragged me back into this freakshow. You wanna know my secret, Romanoff? How I stay calm?” “Dr. Banner...put the scepter down.” Steve said as Bruce lifted Loki’s glowing weapon. Bruce put it down. “Sorry kids, guess you don’t get to see my party trick after all.” A small alarm acted. “Action’s being traced outside” said Fury. Steve turned to Tony. “Put on the suit.” Mind-controlled Hawkeye and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents blasted the helicarrier. They entered, and opened the door for Loki. Natasha fought one-on-one with Hawkeye. The Hulk was released and damaged the ship. Thor fought him to the edge where he threw the Hulk out. Thor ran to keep Loki in his cage, but Loki tricked him and locked him in. Coulson aimed a gun at Loki, but Loki stabbed him from behind. Loki then released Thor off the ship, where Thor bounced around trying to escape the deadly cage. Coulson mocked Loki, who quipped long enough to get shot in the front.
Chapter 5 - Why Even Do It?
The helicarrier was brought back up by Iron Man and Captain America’s working together. But since the death of several agents, no one was sure how to continue the fight. Tony thought back the day he told Pepper he was Iron Man. “I’m not gonna stand by while you put yourself in harm’s way” she said. “I shouldn’t be alive,” he replied. “I just finally know to do. I know in my heart that it’s right.” “You’re all I have too, ya know.” “I don’t know how we’ll deal with this,” Clint told Natasha. “Me neither. This is monsters and magic and stuff we were never trained for.” “Well...might as well give it our best shot.” he grabbed his bow. Everyone strutted for New York. Tony went to trigger Loki to start the fight already. Thor...awoke in the field trying to wield his hammer. For moment, he couldn’t lift it. It was years ago, after almost ruling over the Nine Realms, Thor declared war on Odin’s old enemies, the Frost Giants. He was trying to prove he was ready to be king, just like Odin, and kill his old enemies. But the opposite happened: a war was ignited, and Odin punished him by sending him to Earth human, declaring the hammer go to him who was worthy. Meeting Jane Foster, Thor went to S.H.I.E.L.D. to reclaim his hammer. He fought every agent there and...did not pick up the hammer. He was no longer worthy. He wept for his failure, and even more when Loki lied to him about Odin dying. When he was released, instead of being cast aside, Jane helped him up, and fed him despite not deserving any of her help. That’s when he learned there was more to being worthy than being able to kill enemies. There was more than just giving up your life for glory in battle. There was also...being willing to give up your life for others, especially the least of them. And that’s how he lifted his hammer. And this time, he opened himself up once more, and felt the hammer’s power again. All Thor wished was for Loki to know what it takes to be worthy. And now, Loki had to show that to him. For Pepper. For Coulson. For the ledger. For those in need. For the people of Earth. For themselves. The Avengers each fight their own causes. But in the face of great death, they assemble.
Chapter 6 - The Fight
The Battle of New York took place on Saturday, May 5th. Thrown out of Stark Tower by Loki, Tony grabbed the Iron Man suit and blasted him back. Dr. Selvig opened the portal to space. Aliens swarmed. Tony shot at them all, but many swooped away, shooting at the people of New York. Thor landed and fought Loki. “You can stop this!” he yelled. “No, there is only the war!” sneered Loki. “So be it.” and they fought, until Loki stabbed Thor and slithered away. Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Captain America entered. All the aliens died, but Iron Man led a space whale towards them all. Luckily, the Hulk entered the group. “Dr. Banner, it’s time to get angry” said Steve. “That’s my secret, Captain,” said Bruce. “I’m always angry.” he transformed into the Hulk and punched the space whale down. “Send the rest” said Loki. Multiple armies added into the city. The Avengers stood side-by-side, and the famous circle-shot ensues. They break and fight every alien in the city. Simultaneously, Fury shoots down a jet attempting to nuke New York...only to not see the second nuke headed for it. Fury warns the Avengers. Black Widow attempts to shut down the portal...and fails. Iron Man seeks the nuke, direct it into the portal, and tanks the entire Chitauri army to death, effectively roasting Captain America for when he said Tony only fought for himself. The Avengers catch Loki, whom they each have personal beef with. They take him in, are beloved by millions, eat shawarma, then break off at the end. “When will they come back?” Hill asked Fury. “When we need them to.”
Since each of them fought in wars, built their own suits, and lived by their own codes, they each fought struggles the other could never know about. And even though the world started off calling them names… A boyscout… A egotistical rich snark… A monster… An entitled prince… A bunch of dirty spies… They each still aimed to be the person they were meant to become. And that day in New York, they found out they won’t have to do it alone. They were... The Avengers Club.
The End.

2018.01.16 04:50 whiplash10 How might the Masters of Evil appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

2014.11.05 21:39 rbco My Investment notes on Overstock OSTK

OSTK This is an example of some investment notes I continually put together. These notes relate to Overstock.com (OSTK). We are not suggesting or implying that anyone should buy, sell or hold TASR. We are merely supplying some investment notes I put together. Our internal notes are much more in depth and include various financial modeling.
Please read disclaimer at bottom of this page.
My full notes have tables and pictures, etc. which has not been posted here. I have only supplied a link to my notes on onedrive. I apologize if some of you think it is intended as promotion. I have been sharing my notes, and am not familiar of how else I could post them here, and still be within proper compliance.

I am fairly meticulous on the stocks we own, and notes I take for such investments. This was not one of those typical scenarios. We currently have a ~3.0% position, with an average cost of $16.08. The annual low was $13.80, and I bought it after reading a Value Line on it. OSTK had dropped nearly 50% since mid 2013. I am also intrigued with CEO, Patrick Byrne. John Byrne was Patrick’s father, and was a CEO at GEICO, and if I recall correctly he was a person credited for their turnaround. I think John was one of Buffett’s favorite lieutenants. Patrick has been known as a somewhat “wacky” guy, and he had issues with alleged naked short sellers years back. I was intrigued because he was the son of a respected Buffett protégé. He appears long term minded, and realistic. New HQ in Salt Lake City, UT is being constructed. OSTK is focusing on technology spending.
I expect to own this as long as revenue, earnings, cash flow and such continue to move along positively. ROE is a key metric. Earnings will be brought down by technology infrastructure build and new SLC headquarters being built. Expected occupancy is August 2016.
As of June 30, 2014, Fairfax Financial owns 3,184,677 shares, or 13.25% of the company. OSTK is 5.55% of FFH’s total holdings.
Insider activity has not had much selling.
Yield is 0.00% ($0.00). Earnings expected at $0.55 for 2014, which would give a P/E of 43.51X. Dividend payout has averaged N/A% for the last 10 years. The payout ratio was N/A% in F2012, and N/A% in F2013. Dividend payout ratio expected to be 0.0% and 0.0% for F2014 and F2015 respectively. ROE has averaged NMF% for the last 10 years. ROE is expected to be 11.0% for F2014 and 14.5% for F2015. Average P/E for the last 10 years has been NMFX. Projected eps for F2015 is $1.00 which equates to a forward P/E of 23.93X. VL gives it ‘B’ financial strength, and a Safety rating of 4. VL projects a price between $17 - $30 between 2017 – 2019 (8/15/14).
Morningstar Credit Rating is Not Followed with debt/assets of 0.0%.

24M shares outstanding. We are projecting minimal to no dilution through 2015. OSTK does not typically dilute. Fully diluted weighted average shares are 24,290.
Free cash flow is difficult to assess, as the corporate headquarters might be included. The following is a quick and generic table:

As of September 30, 2014 OSTK has investments in precious metals of $8.9M. The precious metals are presented at lower of cost or market. I find the owning of precious metals odd, yet what would be surprising about that with Mr. Byrne at the helm.
As of September 30, 2014 OSTK owned $346K of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency.
“We seek to invest efficiently in technology, including web services, customer support solutions, website search, expansion of new and existing product categories, and in investments in technology to enhance the customer experience, improve our process efficiency and support our logistics infrastructure. We continue to seek opportunities for growth in our business, including expanding our international sales and ourdistribution capabilities and multi-channel fulfillment services. We have also begun to broker insurance products, and offer consumer financing products through a third party, to our customers. We are also working to develop financial service software that utilizes the bitcoin network and its protocols, subject to the resolution of technical, legal, and regulatory constraints. As a result of these and other initiatives, we expect to continue to increase our technology expenses, and these expenses may be material.” Overstock.com 10Q

“Our current estimate of the total cost of the development and construction and related equipment and furniture of our new headquarters is approximately $96 million. We have entered into a syndicated senior secured credit facility with U.S. Bank and other banks that is intended to provide us with construction and term financing of $45,760,000. The facility is designed to convert to an approximately 6.75-year term loan upon completion of construction.”
Earnings release and conference call 10/23/14:
“Q3 total net revenue was $353 million, a 17% increase from last year. Q3 gross profit dollars increased 13% to $67.1 million. Q3 contribution was $41.6 million, a 13% increase from last year, and contribution margin was 11.8%.“
“Let me give you an internal goal. People ask us and do a lot of analyses I see and I want to be clear about what it is we're trying to do, so you can judge us on whether we accomplish our mission or not. My goal is in each year to grow by -- it's really quite simple. I've got two primary goals: grow the contribution dollar 15% or more and goal number two is half of that increase in dollars I would like to see fall to the bottom line to the pretax operating income line.
Those are my two goals and I think that you can judge us at the end of each year -- I'm saying now that those are the two things we want to accomplish. I guess we could arguably say there's a third thing, which is top line growing 15% or more as well. But really the contribution dollar growing 15% and half of those increased dollars flowing to the bottom line.
I see people get somewhat hung up on sort of tiny shifts quarter to quarter and how one quarter did on one thing versus the same quarter the prior year, and that to me is sort of a lot of noise. What we are managing the business for is to accomplish those two principles. Not saying that we will accomplish it this year, both because we got off to a bit of a slower start and because this year, as I have said at the beginning, we had realized that this was a year of really reinvestment in some large projects.
But just so you know, those were what we are running the business around: keeping the top line at 15% or more on an annual basis, the contribution line on 15% or more growth, and then half of those dollars coming to the bottom line on an annual basis. Don't ask us to try to hit those quarter to quarter and such because we don't look at it on a quarterly basis.” Patrick Byrne – CEO
“I used to, maybe somewhat stupidly, say 10 years ago we are not a tech company. We are a retailer. We are a lemonade stand with a computer in it. But that is not it-- that was because we ran on old-fashioned retail values.
But we have more and more morphed into a tech company and we know that because there's all kinds of technology under the hood that we have in the past had third parties providing for us because we couldn't do it ourselves as well. But over time, our tech teams have grown. We
now have about 330 developers. In 2007 I think we had seven or 12.” Patrick Byrne – CEO
“We have a really robust tech department now with lots of scientists, smart folks, and we are developing our own technologies internally and wetest them against those third-party providers. And we've gotten to the point that an awful lot of our technologies are better than any commercially available third-party. That's why you see us sort of losing some of those integrations.
But anyway, that is where I am going and I'm not at all worried about that kind of expense. I like that we are building our tech expense like that. We are seeing so many opportunities -- so I am not worried about that.
I think that there's probably a lot of attention played -- maybe a bit too much attention paid to one quarter versus the same quarter last year on the bottom line. It all comes down to the fourth quarter.
I think we are going to have a really good year this year. So going forward I'm just reminding people, don't get all hung up in the first quarter on what the bottom line did, some giblet changes versus the previous year, because we really -- we don't really anticipate seeing those first three quarters of each year change a lot in the years ahead, in the next few years ahead. It is the big change we hope is in the fourth quarter each time.” Patrick Byrne – CEO
OSTK discussed the annual debt service of $46M, and reminded investors to consider the rent expense which would have occurred had they not owned the new corporate headquarters. The annual difference on a 10 year lease would have been around $5.4M. OSTK discussed that they now have double the space, and the building will be owned. “So it saves us $1 million a year, it gives us much more space, and we think that there's going to be a lot of synergy by getting the two halves of the brain into the same skull.” Patrick Byrne – CEO

2014.10.31 21:36 rbco TASER (TASR) - Investment Notes

TASR October 31, 2014 (18.87) 3Q14 earnings release, write up and Thesis:
This is an example of some investment notes I continually put together. These notes relate to Taser International (TASR). We are not suggesting or implying that anyone should buy, sell or hold TASR. We are merely supplying some investment notes I put together. Our internal notes are much more in depth and include various financial modeling.
Please read disclaimer at bottom of this page.

“TASER International makes communities safer with innovative public safety technologies. Founded in 1993, TASER first transformed law enforcement with its electrical weapons. TASER continues to define smarter policing with its growing suite of technology solutions, including AXON body-worn video cameras and EVIDENCE.com, a secure digital evidence management platform. More than 132,000 lives and countless dollars have been saved with TASER’s products and services.”
“TASER International engages in the development, manufacture and sale of conducted electrical
weapons designed for use in law enforcement, military, corrections, private security and personal defense.” S&P Capital IQ
October 31, 2014 (18.87) 3Q14 earnings release, write up and Thesis:
Thesis:
TASR as of this writing is a 1.75% allocation position for our firm, with an average cost of $17.17. This is not a typical holding or ours. This is a speculative position, which is based on my thesis that crime has gone down in the world, since cameras are everywhere, and it is my belief that violators of crime are more likely to get caught because of increased surveillance. Taser is looking to be a leader in this field with their property EVIDENCE.COM and their surveillance products, such as AVON and AXON. TASR is a known leader in the industry. They are the blue chip of the industry and they consider themselves an industry standard.
The financials for 3Q14 are not yet released. I suspect that Cash Flow operations are greater than net income. Yet, via heavy share repurchases, I would think that Free Cash Flow (FCF) would be negative after buy backs.
One of my watch areas is the repurchase of stock. I am concerned that share buy backs are being implemented to combat dilution. If this is the case, and it is material, and shares are still diluting, hence one can consider the repurchases to be true costs, which could be considered an operational cost and expense, and effectively create operating losses.
End of the day our thesis is based on potential growth in revenues and net income per share via traction of operations. ROE has been in mid to high teens for 2 fiscal years, and projected to be the same for 2014 and 2015. If growth continues, with respective ROE in mid to high teens, then the future earnings can support a greater share price. This is a growth company, with a market cap of <$1B. There are total current assets of $123M, and total liabilities of $40m (of which $23M is current). There is currently no debt on the books. Of the $40M in liabilities, $20M is in deferred revenue.
This investment is a continual work in progress. TASR is priced for success, should bumps in the road or financial statements occur, the stock price could suffer materially. Keep in mind that TASR closed at $13.61 on 10/13/14 (less than 3 weeks ago) and is now up 38% since then.
Review of earnings release, conference call, 2013 form 10K and website:
Net sales of $44.3M were in line with our conservative expectations of $44M.
Gross margin of 64.7%, driven by higher sales and higher average selling prices.
SG&A decreased slightly, and hence that is a plus.
R&D was $3.8M or 8.6% of revenues. The increase is primarily due to EVIDENCE.COM platform. Personally, I like to see companies spending on R&D. Of course, we hope that it is money well spent. The R&D spend is expected to go through 2015.
Net income was $7.6M or $0.14 per share. EPS is in line with our expectations, yet share count is higher than we anticipated. I was expecting share count to be 52.5M for 2014 and 2015, whereas share count is 54,550 as far as I can see from press release. I will have to wait for 10Q for further clarity.
“The Company completed $2.9 million of stock repurchases during the quarter, purchasing approximately 0.2 million shares for an average cost of $11.94 per share. During the first nine months of 2014, the Company completed $22.4 million of stock repurchases, purchasing approximately 1.7 million shares for an average cost of $12.99 per share. There is approximately $7.6 million remaining on the current stock repurchase authorization.”
“We continue to see positive breakthroughs in the adoption of law enforcement cloud technology as evidenced by this quarter’s EVIDENCE.com and AXON bookings of $15.3 million, nearly tripling last year’s third quarter results,” stated Rick Smith, TASER’s CEO. “In the largest agencies in the world, we are continuing to win in competitive bids as we are the only scalable end-to-end solution in the market today. Further, as of the third quarter we have sold more than 100,000 cameras into the field including AXON cameras and TASER Cam recorders. Beyond the EVIDENCE.com segment, we continue to drive consistent growth in the North American weapons business which grew 20% compared to the prior year third quarter as a result of our current smart weapon platform.”
Yield is 0.00% ($0.00). Earnings expected at $0.43for 2014, which would give a P/E of 43.88X. Dividend payout has averaged 0.00% for the last 10 years. The payout ratio was 0% in F2012, and 0% in F2013. Dividend payout ratio expected to be 0% and 0% for F2014 and F2015 respectively. ROE has been inconsistent for the last 10 years. ROE was 18.9% in 2004,1.0% in 2005, etc. There were losses from 2009 – 2011. ROE was 16.9% in 2012, and 18.0% in 2013. ROE is expected to be 18.0% for F2014 and 16.5% for F2015. Average P/E for the last 10 years has been inconsistent as losses occurred and income was lumpy. Projected eps for F2015 is $0.50 which equates to a forward P/E of 37.74X. VL gives it ‘C++’ financial strength, and a Safety rating of 4. VL projects a price of $17 - $30 in 2017 – 2019 (9/12/14).
There has been some insider selling, but the bulk of it appears to be option related.
“As of December 31, 2013, we had 379 full-time employees and 106 temporary employees. The breakdown of our full-time employees by department is as follows: 146 direct manufacturing employees and 233 administrative and manufacturing support employees. Of the 233
administrative and manufacturing support employees, 81 were involved in sales, marketing, communications and training. Of the 106 temporary employees, more than 92% worked in direct manufacturing roles. Our employees are not covered by any collective bargaining agreement, and we have never experienced a work stoppage. We believe that our relations with our employees are good.”

2014.10.28 22:36 rbco AIG - Investment Notes and Thesis

This is an example of some investment notes I continually put together. These notes relate to American International Group (AIG). We are not suggesting or implying that anyone should buy, sell or hold AIG. We are merely supplying some investment notes I put together. Our internal notes are much more in depth and include various financial modeling.
I apologize for the disclaimer, but for compliance reasons I have included.
Please read disclaimer at bottom of this page.
October 28, 2014 (51.74) Notes 2Q14 as 3Q14 not yet released
Our full notes can be found at this link: http://1drv.ms/1ry0DuR
AIG continues to improve their financial profile, and is making progress in returning to profitability of an industry standard. ROE is expected to be 6.50%, which is lower than I would like to see, but in light of the interest rate environment and discount to book value is totally acceptable. I would own this issue as long as Price to Book was at 1X. I could see owning this at a price to book of 1.5X, but that could be a long time away, and various scenarios could cause a sale prior to that if it ever occurred. Book value could grow at > 10%. I expect that BVPS could be $80 at end of F2015.
AIG has a goal to return $25 - $30B in capital to shareholders during 2011 – 2015. Through 2013 ~$20B has been returned, of which about $15B has been done via share buybacks. Projected dividends are $0.50 for 2014, and $0.75 for 2015. If dividend stayed at $0.50, our thesis would remain unaffected.
The primary reasons for owning AIG is a quality organization being priced materially less than book value. From 1985 – 1996 AIG was priced between 1.5X to 2.5X BVPS. This increased to sometimes 3X BVPS from 1999 to 2002, and was typically at 1.5X to 2.5X from 2002 to 2008. P/BVPS was 47% in 2012, and 65% in F2014. I project BVPS of $75 in F2014, and $80 in F2015, which at the current price of $51.74 would be P/BVPS of 69% currently, and 65% in F2015.
Book Value per share excluding AOCI was $64.28 at F2013, and is projected by us to be $68 at F2014, and $71.50 at F2015.
Yield is 0.96% ($0.50). Earnings expected at $4.85 for 2014, which would give a P/E of 10.67X. Dividend payout has averaged <10% for the last 25 years. Of course the ratio is distorted as 5 of the last 10 years had no payout or losses. The payout ratio was 0% in F2012, and 4% in F2013. Dividend payout ratio expected to be 10% and 10% for F2014 and F2015 respectively. Prior to 2006 ROE was typically greater than 10%. There was no ROE from 2008 – 2010, which coincided with the financial crisis, and AIG was one of the material culprits of that crisis. ROE is expected to be 6.50% for F2014 and 6.50% for F2015. Average P/E for the last 10 years has been inconsistent. Historically from 1980 – 1997 the average annual P/E was 12.68. From 1998 through 2002 the P/E was >20. From 2003 till present, the P/E was between 8X (2012) and 29.9X (2011). Projected eps for F2015 is $4.95 which equates to a forward P/E of 10.45X. VL gives it ‘C++’ financial strength, and a Safety rating of 4. VL projects a price of $55 - $90 between 2017 – 2019 (8/15/14).

With so many swings in popular opinion and scientific research, how do you guard against potential "Jenny McCarthy" reversals with respect to your current and future projects? I have nothing against Jenny McCarthy... one thing I try to make clear.. is that I am no expert in anything.. just curious about a lot and I love that I get to educate both myself and others with topics that I feel are important to the masses.
Hey Ricki, I absolutely loved you in Hairspray it was a movie I used to watch over and over as a kid and I still watch it to this day! What was your favorite part about making that film? What was your favorite song? All the best to you! I LOVED doing the scene when I do the Madison... when I bust my way through.. it was so much fun.. Thank you! I love that movie too. working with Divine was the best!!! xo.
Do you have any stories about working with Divine? Or any fond memories? Thanks for doing this AMA by the way. <3 :) Divine goes down in history as being the one who taught me to walk in high heels. Thanks Divi... I miss him so. xo.
Did you have Jenny Jones murdered and if so where did you hide the body? No comment. ;)
Have you heard the song "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) by The Offspring? You get name checked! Yes, I have heard it.. crazy!!!
I know you're an avid Clipper fan.How bummed were you about the Clippers game 6? :'( I'm still not over it! The whole Sterling thing was a nightmare.. but my team is incredible... They will win next year and I will in my season tickets seat cheering all the way. Go Clippers!!! xo.
Thank you by the way for your question about my Clippers.. Game 6 was such a bummer... you know and I know they were robbed of that win!
Hi Ricki! I grew up with you on TV and got introduced to Hairspray by my grandmother. She went into the wrong theater and saw Hairspray by accident. ;) She liked it so much she brought me back the next week! What was it like working with Divine and John Waters?? Also, what was the weirdest/strangest topic you covered on your talk show? I love that about your grandma.. :) Hairspray is kind of infectious.. strangest topic... hmmm... every topic was pretty strange for the most part.. I was fascinated daily by what people would say and do on national tv.. and that was long before reality tv...
Can you still do the bug? Ha... why, yes I can!!! :)
What was the "spark" that caused you to get behind marijuana and children with cancer? Like.. what brought it to your attention? Edit: Wrong person. Oh and loved you in Cry Baby! Spark.. pun intended.. ;) My husband, Christian was a huge inspiration.. he was seeking out treatment for himself.. and also for his grandfather who was dying of cancer...
I have a back problem and was treated horribly by doctors in the hospital. I couldn't walk for months and rehabbed myself at home myself using marijuana. Best of luck to your husband and thanks for bringing attention to this issue! Good for you! and Thank you for sharing... xoxo.
What motivates you to create this kind of media? What would you be doing if you weren't doing this (I assume) with most of your time?? I am completely inspired to make projects that get people thinking.. questioning the system a little.. advocating for themselves.. gives my life meaning.. more so that hoochie baby mama talk shows.. you know ?
Hi Ricki and Abby have y'all ever kayaked or canoed before? Yes! :)
Awsome did you go on a kayak or a canoe? And where ? I wish I in a kayak right now! ;)
Helli Ricki,(and Abby and Victoria) Thanks for the ama session. What was the character u liked to play the most? What inspired u ur actual projects!? Weed the people, ur best birth, or sweetening the pill. What was the best advice u ve ever been given in life and by whom? My fave character has to be Tracy Turnblad.. she was the closest character to myself.. My inspiration usual comes from a personal passion of mine.. like the birth stuff.. then I tend to have a natural curiosity about something.. like cannabis... I hope I answered your question.. sorry my fingers are getting tired...
How much weight have you actually lost since the 90's? Remember my mom used to watch your show, and you were quite big back then. A LOT. I have gained and lost.. probably a million pounds over the years... these days it's about feeling good and not so much about what the scale says..
How is John Waters doing? Do you guys still keep in touch? John is amazing. I see and talk to him often.. I just received an advance copy of his new book, Carsick, a couple of days ago. He is my mentor and dear friend.. and I wouldn't be doing what I do today were it not for him. Thanks JOHN!
I want to host a daytime talk show. What are your recommendations for getting started in that line of business? Can you provide me with names or phone numbers of people I need to get in contact with at networks? I am not famous, I just want to interview famous people. Ha.. I'd love to give you the number of my ex-boss.. but he was a nightmare... trust me, you do not want to work for him! ;)
What has been the defining moment of your career, Ricki? I've had such exciting times in this crazy career of mine... but the most fulfilling work I probably will ever do.. is the making of my doc, The Business of Being Born with my partner in crime, Abby Epstein.. who is to my left...;)
Did you ever see the Hairspray remake/Broadway revival and if so did you enjoy? Yes, I have... I LOVED it.. and in fact, I just performed a couple of weeks ago w/ the cast of Hairspray on Broadway...marissa jaret winokur, and nikki blonsky.. at Carnegie Hall. It was amazing!!! Thanks..
Ricki, so excited you're doing this AMA! My question comes from a lot of adoration of your early work on films such as Hairspray and Cry-Baby. How fun were those roles for you (Tracy and Pepper)? Did you know at the time that they would become cult-classics? I loved making both of those films. Life-changing experiences.. Johnny Depp wasn't bad either. ;)
These days I am thrilled that I get to produce docs that are making a difference in the world. xo.
NO I did not know that they would become cult-classics... seriously, I didn't even realize that Hairspray would come out... I was clueless... and naive.
She is best known for her talk show... But I know you best from Serial Mom! What was it like working on that movie? Do you even remember that movie, it was like 20 years ago and I can't even remember what I had for breakfast. It was 20 years ago... exactly!!! I just returned from doing an appearance at The Castro Theater in San FRan.. they did this huge screening with tons of amazing drag queens.. Serial Mom is a really great movie that seems to hold up after all these years.
RICKI!! Is it true you were originally supposed to play the mom on The Middle? That would've been FANTASTIC!! Any chance you might consider another sitcom? I'd love to see you in a comedic role again!!! Yes, I shot the pilot... it was shot right during the writers strike.. they shelved it and then recast many of the characters.. it was a lot of fun.. but looking back on it.. I think I was miscast.
Why did you decide to do this movie about Marijuana and children with cancer? I have heard a lot of buzz about this lately! Is there really something to this? Yes... I've learned so much about Cannabis and its healing properties.. mind blowing information... I love using my celebrity to get the word out about these types of things..
Guys!!! I'm starstruck haha! Will you be coming back to Alaska for any screenings? Maybe in Anchorage this time? I missed the last one because my toddler got very sick the night before the MBOBB screening. Weed The People is amazing... Get it up here! I had the best time in Alaska!!! Such nice people and the weather was gorgeous.. Thank you!!! Hope to visit again sometime soon. xo.
I'll take you fishing on the beach, road tripping through the mountains, and show you guys all about the huge success of postpartum belly binding I've been having up here! Come back! :) Sounds great!!! xo.
Hi Ricki and Abby! This is absolutely amazing what you are doing! What was it about this movement that caught your attention? What inspired you to make this film? You'll have to check out our Indiegogo page to find out exactly what inspired me.. it's kind of a long story..
Hey Ricki, thanks for doing this AMA. I've been a fan of yours for a long time. (As a kid, my mom forced me to watch your show and grew into liking it) I can't hear your name without hearing, "Go Ricki, Go Ricki." Anyway, my question: What was your reaction when you found out you were going to get your own talk show? I was clueless about how to do a talk show and how long it might last... I was so unlucky with work prior to getting the show.. I was just hoping to have a gig for a few months.. low and behold it ran for 11 years... :)
I watched it for all 11 years. Thanks for the reply. :)
Do you have any stories from your time working on The King of Queens? Such a funny show.. too bad I got pregnant with my second son during the year I did the show.. Only got to do 6 episodes.. Love Kevin. Hilarious! Also, it was great to be back together with Jerry Stiller... :)
Funniest Kevin James story? Loved doing the scene in the gym.. I played his sister who was a gym teacher.. he did these pranks on the horse/vault.. that was so hilarious.. I could not keep a straight face...
Hi, I was wondering, what would you say is your favorite book and why? I'd have to say, Spiritual Midwifery.. by Ina May Gaskin.. That is the book that inspired me to make The Business of Being Born and also inspired to seek out a homebirth.
What was your most memorable episode of Ricki Lake? I was partial to the weave war shows... Love em and miss em. :)
I'm super pro cannabis for cancer!! When will this movie be out and how can I get involved? I would love to help you raise awareness. Someone I love is using cannabis and it is kicking the shit out of their cancer. So excited for this!!! I'm in...whatever you need! THANK YOU!!! We welcome all support... xoxo.
Have you ever helped a marijuana refugee or plan to in the future? Yes, I have... and by making this movie we will helping many many more...
Hey Ricki! What do you think I should name my first born son? He'll be born in a month and I'm looking for opinions! I'm a fan of the names Milo and Owen... ha.. my sons' names.. ;)
Asking the real questions here. Much appreciated. ;)
If i wasn't poor, i would give you gold. :)
Went to see The Ricki Lake Show in NYC years ago - me & my friends had a BLAST!! You ROCK Ricki!! I now live in Colorado and have been reading about the influx of people moving here due to the Medical Marijuana for their kids. Can't wait to see "Weed the People" ~ Thank you!!! please check out our Weed the People page and help get the word out about this very important project... #weedthepeople.. xo
Liked the FaceBook Page and am posting your campaign on my page. I can't donate now, but, hopefully it will help a little :) Thank you! So appreciate the support! xo.
What do you think is the most difficult hurdle for cannabis activists in states like Texas or other southern conservative states @TXmmjASK. It gonna take a lot of educating and getting the word out so the consumer demands changes... I do think we are heading to a time when it will be legalized in every state.. I believe!
Will the real Ricki Lake please stand up. Standing Tall!
She is sitting actually. with a big starbucks ice coffee by her side. Yeah.. busted.. I'm sitting..
